Waiting on the mossy couch, the little fairy Addelina sat with bouncing knees. The guardians were on their way.
Flying, Maddilou, who had no clue, sang while flipping in the air watching her sister down below.
Addelina was turning eight. all the fairies knew that that was the age when fairies received their guardian challenge.
Suddenly Poof! Poof!
two guardians appeared floating above Addelina. The head guardian, Hera, conducted greetings while Hera’s guardian sister, Symphony, began waving her arms and grinning.
It was time.
Hera agreed to let Symphony give Addelina the challenge.
Symphony began spinning, flipping and singing until she came to a halt next to Addelina.
The guardian bent over and whispered in the fairy’s ear.
Addelina began smiling. This will be easy she thought.
Unfortunately,
taking care of a little sister was a big mess!
Maddilou did not want to go to school.
Maddilou absolutely would not take a bath,
and
when it was time to go to sleep, Maddilou just would not hold still.
This wasn’t as easy as Addelina thought.
On the second day when Addelina was not watching,
Maddilou ran away into the grassy jungle where the brownies lived. Spying, two icky brownies snatched up Maddilou and begged her to give them magic.
Searching, Addelina ran through the tall grass looking for her little sister. In despair, Addelina fell asleep.
She woke up the next day to her sister singing. Maddilou had made friends with the brownies by giving them some fairy dust so they let her go free.
Addelina was so relieved to see Maddilou she rushed over and give her a big hug.
For the rest of that week Addelina watched her sister very closely.
She even managed to get Maddilou on the schoolbus, found a way to give her a bath, and she was able to put Maddilou to sleep by singing her lullabies.
At last, the end of the week came.
Once again the two guardians appeared smiling.
Hera asked Addelina how the week went. Addelina bowed her head and began to weep.
“It was not
I made some oops’s and some uh oh's but I found out the more I serve the more my love grows.”
Hera smiled and sang,
“My dear, you have learned and you have grown.
Just remember,
being a guardian is not always easy, but you learn to love and by loving you learn to live.”
Trinkle! Trinkle! Trinkle!
Addelina looked behind her to see brand new guardian wings on her back.
Addelina smiled and thought, being a guardian will be easy.
The End!
